I was wondering if PC components such as graphics cards, motherboard, RAM, hard drives, CD Drives etc need to be recycled and if so where can I do it?

Japanese law

If your PC is made by a Japanese computer manucacturer contact the company direstly. Japanese computer manufacturers are required by law to recover, recycle, and reuse all obsolete products.

The Council may not be reusing but only recycling or disposing. There are charities which will take computers and there are firms who will delete permanently the info on them for you. Freecycle and gumtree are good places to advertise. Freecycle is giving away and the person who wants something has to collect. It is very successful - you'll be amazed by what other people are looking for/want. The Councils often only collect for a fee or you have to lug the equipment somewhere. Do be extremely careful about data.

Things that work can be recycled via Freecycle. Make sure that you do not give away information (data) with your computer.

You can find you nearest recycling site for waste electrical goods via the recycle-more bank locator.

Just enter in your postcode and the type of waste you want to recycle for a list of recycling sites.
